Brewer’s yeast health benefits are obtained from it’s high concentration of beta glucans which are readily available as a powder or as a pill. Brewer’s yeast contains about 7.7% of beta glucans (2), which is about 1000 mg per tablespoon. The encapsulated form of beta-glucan is used when a pill is preferred, but is typically more expensive than buying the powder alone. More brewer’s yeast health benefits may therefore be achieved by buying the brewer’s yeast in bulk powder form, rather than in a pill form.
Can you lose weight with brewer’s yeast?
Don’t expect to lose a significant amount of weight with brewer’s yeast or beta glucans. The health benefits of brewer’s yeast as a food additive are extraordinary. Consider using brewer’s yeast mixed in cereal, yogurt, or baking recipes. The supplement has excellent potential for use as an anti-inflammatory agent, for blood pressure control, and to maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Because of the effect of beta glucans on markers of inflammation, future research should be conducted in rheumatologic diseases and in “inflammaging.”
